One of my friends told me that Purity is one of the hardest virtues to be fulfilled, whether you are a religious or layman. To attain this virtue one has to have trust, faithfulness, and sacrifices because everything in this world is connected and everything has a purpose. at that time because of my innocent mind I really don't know what purity is, (many years back). But now as for my experience most of the people would say that being impure is part of being human or it is nomal for a person to be experienced, but for me it is not an excuse. It is better for a person to strive and remain pure. I believe that even holy persons experienced the hardships of preserving this virtue, but I guess beacuse of their prayers, sacrifices, courage, hopes and their intimate communion with the Lord they remain pure.
In dealing with the concept of holiness, St. Thomas Aquinas, after pointing out the close relation between holiness nad purity, concludes with the assertion that a man of holiness means a pure man, a man without blemish of earth.
Don Bosco in his Biographical Memoirs, defined purity as, "the virtue that outshines all others in heaven." He suggested that to preserve purity we have to remember that we are "always in the presence of God." Don Bosco's love for purity is the outcome of his ardent love for souls. He was convinced that he helped his boys to sanctificatoion, by constantly inculcating to them the "LOVE for purity."
But still what is this virtue really all about? why is it important?According to the Gospel of St. Matthew, Ch. 5 v.8: "Blessed are those who are pure of heart, they will see God." For now who are those people whom we believe and proclaimed by the Church that they already see God, those are the Saints, those are the pure people.
St. Augustine warns us that "It is not the essential to consider what a man does, but also, and more especially, with what will and intention he does it." "The works of man" he continues, "are not known except by examining to see if they are rooted in Charity or Love, because even flowers have thorns." That it may be in one instance we will be misled to imputiy. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WHEN WE WORK LET US WORK FOR THE WORLD NOT IN THE SPIRIT OF THE WORLD BUT IN THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD.
